Canadian Milking Shorthorn Society Celebrates New Production Champions

In recent months, some Canadian Milking Shorthorn cows have completed lactations which have catapulted them to the top of the list for all-time production in their respective age categories. Here are those new production champions:

Oceanbrae Granite Leeann-P VG-85 has set new 305 day records for milk and protein production by a Three Year Old. At 3 years, 4 months of age, Leeann produced 12,459 kgs of milk, 457 kgs of fat (3.7%) and 415 kgs of protein (3.3%) with BCAs of 436-397-446. She is a polled daughter of homebred sire Oceanbrae OPT Granite-P and a two-time Superior Production Award winning dam. Leeann-P sits #4 on the EBV Milk list after the December 2024 genetic evaluation round and is bred and owned by Oceanbrae Farms of Belmont, PEI.

Oceanbrae Ironman Ginger EX-91-3E (photo) has set a new 305 day record for protein production by a cow Ten Years & Older. This year she completed a record of 10,525 kgs of milk, 436 kgs of fat (4.1%) and 414 kgs of protein (3.9%) with BCAs of 342-360-414. Over her lifetime (7 lactations), Ginger is a 5.0% fat and 3.9% protein cow and is the #40 GLPI cow in Canada. She is a four-time Superior Production Award winner and was also Reserve Grand Champion of the National Milking Shorthorn Show in 2015. Her son Oceanbrae Generator is currently in collection at Semex. A daughter of #14 GLPI sire Oceanbrae Ironman-P (marketed by Semex), Ginger is bred and owned by Oceanbrae Farms of Belmont, PEI.

Oceanbrae Pingerly Berry VG-85 has set a new 305 day record for protein production by a Mature Cow after producing 472 kgs of protein. Her 6 year 2 month 305 day record totals 14,287 kgs of milk, 578 kgs of fat (4.0%) and 472 kgs protein (3.3%) with BCAs of 434-445-441. This now also ranks Berry number three for 305 day milk production among Mature Cows. Berry is the current #1 GLPI cow in Canada (December 2024) and has been awarded Class Leader and Superior Production Awards on two previous lactations. Berry is sired by Australian sire Treeton Pingerly (marketed by Semex) and the daughter of 7 Star Brood Cow Oceanbrae Jurist Betty EX-92-2E. She is bred and owned by Oceanbrae Farms of Belmont, PEI.

In the same age group as Berry, her maternal sister Oceanbrae Royal Elizabeth VG-88 follows just behind her to rank #2 all time for 305 day milk production and #3 for protein production as a Mature Cow. This daughter of US sire Ecuafarm Kaiser Royalty produced 14,678 kgs of milk, 572 kgs of fat (3.9%) and 458 kgs of protein (3.1%) in 305 days with BCAs of 454-447-436. Elizabeth is a full sister to #5 GLPI sire Oceanbrae Royal Bentley, marketed worldwide by Semex Alliance. Elizabeth was bred by Oceanbrae Farms of Belmont, PEI and is owned by Celtic Isle Genetics of Kensington, PEI.
