Judge’s Reasons:

This high style, straight lined heifer rises to the top of this class. Furthermore, she’s more total heifer with more mass and width throughout. She’s also wider in her rump and tracks straighter and has more spring depth and openness to her rib. The heifer coming in second, you love her dairyness and femininity. She’s shapier and cleaner boned throughout than our heifer in third.  For third over fourth, this heifer has more capacity to her barrel for her age. She’s also fuller in the crops and blends smoother from part to part.

1st:  Richford Tributation Chloe

2nd:  Spruce Briar Cyride Kelsie

3rd:  Richford Icon Tub

Yearling class (born Sept 1, 2021 to Aug 31, 2022) sponsored by Laralor Farms, Dromore, Ontario.
1.  Boadewine Hoeve Scarlette (Oceanbrae Foster) – Frans Cornelissen, Williamstown, ON (4-H  Kylie Cornelissen)
2.  Oceanbrae Tribute Gold (Ovensdale Jennys Tribute) – Oceanbrae Farms, Belmont, PEI
3.  Bovidae Foster Annie (Oceanbrae Foster) – Bovidae Farms, Falmouth, NS (4-H Alice Duey)
4.  Bovidae Tribute Charlotte (Ovensdale Jennys Tribute)- Bovidae Farms, Falmouth, NS (4-H Charlotte Duey)

Judge’s Reasons:

The heifer I’m starting with overwhelms the other heifers with her dairyness. She’s longer and leaner in her neck, more chiseled down her top, more prominent over her hoock, pins and thurls while being flatter and more incurving in her thighs. She’s also flatter and cleaner boned in her hock and walks with more fluidity. You have to appreciate the red heifer in second for her sheer power and massive barrel. She’s simply more total heifer than other straight lined heifer in third.”

2nd:  Oceanbrae Tribute Gold
3rd:  Bovidae Foster Annie

First Lactation Cows:  sponsored by Laughlin Farms, Kinburn, ON.

1. Oceanbrae Royal Blossom (Ecuafarm Kaiser Royalty) – Oceanbrae Farms, Belmont, PEI.
2. Ashtonia Conrad Burrito (Lady Grove Conrad) – Ashtonia Milking Shorthorns, Port Perry, ON.

Judge’s Reasons:
In a close placing, I prefer the red cow’s overall dairy quality. She’s sharper and more refined throughout, and I prefer the angle and openness to her rib. She also looks to have more texture and pliability to her udder with a deeper cleft allowing her teats to point more perpendicular to the ground. You can’t deny the roan cows incredible frame, uphill run and blending of parts.
1st:  Oceanbrae Royal Blossom
2nd: Ashtonia Conrad Burrito

2nd and 3rd Lactation Cow Class:  sponsored by Ashtonia Milking Shorthorns of Port Perry, ON
1. Oceanbrae Bentley Fontana (Oceanbrae Royal Bentley) – Oceanbrae Farms, Belmont, PEI
2. Oceanbrae Bentley Misty (Oceanbrae Royal Bentley) – Oceanbrae Farms, Belmont, PEI
3. Kolson Bentley Lizzy (Oceanbrae Royal Bentley) – Kolson Milking Shorthorns, Cobden, ON
4. Headacher Blaine Penny (Eichlers Liriano Blaine-EXP)  – Jenna Kippen of Mulmur, ON
5. Kolson Bentley Legacy (Oceanbrae Royal Bentley) – Kolson Milking Shorthorns, Cobden, ON
6. Oceanbrae Lass Ballerina (Oceanbrae Royal Bentley) – Richford Farms, St. Marys, ON
7. Lynmark Ricochet Flare (Cor-Bloo Ricochet) – Sheldon Richardson, St. Marys, ON

Judge’s Reasons:
The cow with the most dairy strength and best udder rises to the top of this class. The cow I’m starting with is stronger in the front end, wider on her chest floor, and shows me more spring depth and openness to her rib today. Furthermore, she has a longer, smoother fore udder and shows more balance to her rear udder carrying her fullness top to bottom. My second place cow is sharper over her shoulders, more prominent about her hooks and pins and flatter in her thighs. She also overwhelms our third place cow with more bloom, capacity and turn to her rear udder and has a flatter, cleaner hock. Third over fourth today in a closer placing, but I give the roan cow the advantage in the mammary system. She has a much shorter, thinner teat size and shape with them placed more squarely beneath her quarters. She also has more uphill run and has a more level rump.
1st: Oceanbrae Bentley Fontana
2nd: Oceanbrae Bentley Misty
3rd: Kolson Bentley Lizzy

Mature Cow Class (Four or more lactations): sponsored by Oceanbrae Farms, Belmont, Prince Edward Island.
1. Kolson Mocha Leary (Clarefield Mocha) – Kolson Milking Shorthorns, Cobden, ON.
2. Lyndale Me Right Now (SWAG Mega Mr. Right) – Sheldon Richardson, St. Marys, ON.
3. Headacher Snoopy Duchess (Hard Core Othello Snoopy) – Jenna Kippen, Mulmur, ON

Judge’s Reasons:
In this class of mature cows there’s a handy winner, with this roan cow sporting the best udder with the most bloom and capacity. You definitely appreciate the high wide rear udder. She also parades with more ease and fluidity with a flatter cleaner hock. My second place cow carries her udder much higher above the hock with teats placed more squarely beneath her quarters. She’s also straighter in her lines with a more nearly level rump and stands on stronger pasterns with a deeper heel.
1st: Kolson Mocha Leary
2nd: Lyndale Me Right Now
3rd: Headacher Snoopy Duchess
